Happy Birthday Harding Academy

Happy Birthday Harding Academy

Thursday, September 8th, one of Memphis' oldest Christian schools will celebrate its 59th Birthday. Harding Academy opened its doors for the first day of school on September 8, 1952 as Memphis Christian School in the Normal Street Church of Christ building. It was initiated through the efforts of many dedicated Christians who envisioned a school where the Bible could be taught along-side academic subjects

In 1957, Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas, assumed control of the school and the name was changed to Memphis Harding Academy. The following year, the high school moved to the present building at 1100 Cherry Rd.

Separating from Harding College in 1978, the Academy became an independent school under the direction of its own board of directors. Also at that time, the Academy took on its current name, Harding Academy of Memphis, Inc.

In 1991, the Little Harding Cherry Rd.

Band fundraiser appeals to taste buds

High school bands need to raise money. Uniforms, instruments, competitions and travel are expensive and most school budgets can’t cover it all. That’s why you see kids holding car washes and selling wrapping paper.

Those are fine fundraisers, but the Bartlett High School Band knows the best way to tempt Mid-Southerners is with wonderfully cooked pork.
