Holiday Market Place to open at Bon Lin

Get an early start to your holiday shopping at the Holiday Market Place,  held at the Bon Lin Middle School, 3862 North Germantown Road, November 14, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  A variety of vendors will offer such items as purses, jewelry, make-up, arts and crafts, and much more.

Holiday shoppers can get head start at Bon Lin’s Marketplace

The Bon Lin Middle School Marketplace is coming just in time for holiday gift shopping! The Marketplace will be held on Monday, November 14, from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. and include purses, jewelry, make-up, custom-made arts and crafts, home party consultants and much more. The boys and girls basketball teams will be playing that day, too, so it will be a busy and exciting day to kick off the holiday shopping season. Admission is free for shoppers.

Group to pray for unified school district

Shelby County residents will meet to pray for the future of the county’s new, unified school district this Friday.

The group will meet the first Friday of the month at Schaeffer Memorial Chapel, 7887 Poplar Avenue.

Harding Girls Cross Country place first in region

A big congratulations to both Harding varsity boys and girls cross country teams who competed in the Regionals in Jackson Thursday.

Both teams qualified for state, and we had the No. 1 runner in both boys and girls - senior Audrey Sharp and freshman Christopher Galbreath.

The girls team came in first by one point (St. George’s was in second place), and the boys team came in second. They will run at the state meet in Nashville at Percy Warner park on Saturday, November 5. Go Lions!

Bartlett to compete in Bandmasters Championship

Bartlett High School's band will take part in the Bandmasters Championship, an annual contest hosted by the University of Memphis Band Alumni Chapter, on Saturday, October 29.

Proceeds from the contest benefit scholarships for the University of Memphis Band, "The Mighty Sound of the South.” The contest is held at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

Originally known as The Mid-South Invitational, the Bandmasters Championship began in 1963. In the 1990's the Band Alumni Chapter took on the responsibility of the event, which has hosted marching bands from all over the Mid-South. This year’s competition will feature 37 high school bands including the 2010 Grand Champion Munford High School from Munford. The 37 registered bands are the most ever to appear in the Bandmasters Championship.

Bartlett and Lakeland Latest County Cities To Consider School Systems

In separate board meetings, both the cities of Bartlett and Lakeland decided to join Arlington, Collierville and Germantown in hiring Southern Educational Strategies for a feasibility study on the possibility of creating its own private school system this week.

Both the City of Bartlett and Lakeland's Mayor and Board of Aldermen agenda included hiring Southern Educational Strategies, LLC for direction on forming a municipal school district separate from the new countywide unified school board.

Southern Educational Strategies is headed by former Tipton County schools superintendent Tim Fite and Jim Mitchell, who is the former superintendent for Shelby County Schools.

Bartlett's contract is for up to $72,000 -- the same amount as Germantown and Collierville, while the fee in the proposed Lakeland contract is $36,000.
