Run with the speed of light through Starry Nights

Run with the speed of light through Starry Nights

For years runners, walkers and bikers have been able to enjoy Starry Nights up close and personal on Monday nights for just $5.  But this year, Breakaway Running and Shelby Farms are taking that experience to the next level.

They are introducing the "Starry Nights 4k".  It's a race through the Starry Nights display at Shelby Farms and it should be a blast!

There is a $20 registration fee and the money goes to help Shelby Farms Park and Shelby Farms Greenline, a resource many runners across Shelby county enjoy.

You will also get a glow in the dark shirt!

Here is the information about the 4k:

Little cases shaped like tiny houses are popping up all over town, and from a distance some could even mistake it as a birdhouse - until you look closely and see it is filled with books.

There are 15 Little Free Libraries in the state of Tennessee, and five of those are in Memphis.

Based on a "take a book, leave a book" concept, anyone could walk up to a Little Free Library and grab something to read.

Local bookseller observes positive reading habits of 'Facebook generation'

The Facebook generation is reading strong according to a recent survey, and a local bookseller said he has observed part of the trend in a Memphis bookstore.

"I've been a bookseller for 35 years. Publishers have been speaking directly to that demographic recently and that's nothing but good," said The Booksellers at Laurelwood manager Eddie Burton.

According to the report from Pew Research Center, 8 in 10 Americans between the ages of 16 and 30 have read a book in the past year. That's compared to about 7 in 10 adults in general.

Of the the younger adults surveyed some 75 percent read a print book, 19 percent read an e-book and 11 percent listened to an audiobook.

Among Americans who read e-books, those under the age of 30 are more likely to read their e-books on a cell phone or computer than on an e-book reader.

Staff Opinion: Computer server problems at Yahoo! leads to frustrated fantasy football players

Fantasy football is typically played online and allows players to virtually manage a team of real life players.  The better a player does in real life, the more points for their fantasy teams.

According to ask.com, nearly 50 million people play fantasy football.  To some, this “sport” has become more popular than the actual game itself.

So when some of those participants were unable to “manage” their teams this past Sunday, the outcry of frustrated fans was well documented on social media.

One of the largest providers of fantasy football, Yahoo! Sports, experienced technical difficulties with their computer servers.
