Chickasaw Council of Boy Scouts anticipate record year in food drive

Chickasaw Council of Boy Scouts anticipate record year in food drive

The Chickasaw Council of Boy Scouts are putting their forces behind the Mid-South Food Bank this holiday season.

Scouting for Food is an effort to feed families in need.

One in five Mid-Southerners struggle with food insecurity - that's a lack of sufficient food to meet basic needs.

"I think were going to have a record year. Not only have we filled up all the bins this year at this location, but we also picked up North Mississippi.

They had eight troop groups down there," said David Stephens of the Mid-South food bank.

This year, Kroger is also lending a hand by offering eight food collection sites.

The Mid-South Food Bank delivers more than one million pounds of food per month.

Starting before the sun came up Wednesday morning, Action News 5 had crews across the Mid-South collecting donations during the annual Holiday Food Drive that hit six different locations this year.

As it is every year, it has been the generosity of the Mid-South that makes the drive benefiting the Mid-South Food Bank so successful.

Many charitable and thoughtful people came out to donate, including the little angel pictured above. She stopped by the Walmart on Highway 64 in Bartlett.

Action News 5’s own Dave Brown was also at the Bartlett WalMart location. Local eatery Uncle Lou's Fried Chicken gave away free gift certificates for a donation to the Mid-South Food Bank.

Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell stopped by the Memphis Food Bank in Midtown to donate and help out.
