Award-winning ESL Summer Camp back for another year

Shelby County Schools’ award-winning ESL (English as a Second Language) Summer Camp is back for the fifth year.

The camp has earned the statewide Excellence in Education Award from the Tennessee School Boards Association (TSBA) multiple times in its five-year run, and  ESL students from around the district are signed up for more multicultural fun this year at Bon Lin Elementary.

This year’s camp theme is Enhancing the World Through Eric Carle. Campers are engaging in hands-on activities that focus on animal habitats, weather, agriculture and space. Each of the children will create their own book and have fun with some creative Eric Carle-inspired craft projects. All of the lessons are designed to stimulate creative thinking, sharpen language and vocabulary skills and possibly even spark some future college and career interests, all within an ESL context. Children will get to showcase their work for family members during a big celebration on the final day of camp.

The camp take place every day through June 15 at Bon Lin Elementary in Bartlett.
