BARTLETT, TN - (WMC-TV) – A Bartlett woman is in jail after her house was shut down for being considered a nuisance.
Neighbors in the Bartlett neighborhood told me they knew something was going on at a certain house.
Police did too. When they showed up with a summons for the owner for environmental court they found her cooking meth again.
"It's pretty scary. I mean thinking that the house could blow up then burn mine down and the neighbors down," said neighbor Robert McBride.
Robert McBride lives next door to a boarded up house in Bartlett declared a nuisance Wednesday after Bartlett and Memphis organized crime officers arrested the owner, Ashley York again for cooking meth.
Neighbor Darryl Smith has called the police in the past.
"I was suspicious just seeing people that you don't know walk around the neighborhood and called the cops when they were," said neighbor Darryl Smith. "Constantly going in and out. I work all hours of the morning. I may be walking out the door at 4 am and see cars in and out."
Police have arrested York at least three times at the house, twice for cooking meth. Investigators have answered 15 calls to the house since October for things like loud music and domestic problems.
One neighbor said that one time York was behind bars some men he called cookers came through a fence with broken boards and went into the house and caught the upstairs bathroom on fire cooking meth.
The house was boarded up and sealed in the morning. The seal on this garage door is already broken. Neighbors say York's father who lives in another state bought the house for her. They say when she initially moved in she had two children with her, but they did not stay long. For now the house is under quarantine because of hazardous substances.
It is up to a judge to decide how long the house will remain boarded up. Neighbors say York's father has already had to pay for the house to be decontaminated twice.
