City to hold public meeting on municipal schools lawsuit | News

(WMC-TV) – Bartlett officials will hold a public meeting regarding the pending lawsuit to stop municipalities from forming their own school districts.

The meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The lawsuit officials will discuss was filed by Shelby County commissioners last week to block the formation of schools in suburban Shelby County.

The commissioners believe the county will be partially responsible for funding schools if the new districts are formed.

Those in favor of municipal school districts say suburban citizens want to be heard and want the right to vote on the matter.

A judge will be making a decision on the county commission quickly because the August 2 election is fast approaching.
