Bartlett Crime Stopper fund running low

Bartlett Crime Stopper fund running low

Crime Stoppers in Bartlett is asking for your help to keep their funding from drying up.

Crime Stoppers relies solely on donations and unfortunately, those donations have dwindled down to just $500.

They have reached out on the Bartlett Police Facebook page to get you to donate.

Lieutenand Todd Halford of Bartlett Police said they have used Crime Stoppers to find suspects involved in fraud cases or stolen credit cards.

Most recently, a call from Bartlett Crime Stoppers resulted in the arrest of Joe Caronna when he was spotted at a motel in Jackson, Tenn.

Since their posting on Facebook, they've already begun to receive donations.

CERT Training to be offered at IH Clubhouse in Lakeland.

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area.  It also trains them in basic disaster response skills; such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.

CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

The most recent CERT class concluded last November and had 14 graduates that included citizens from Bartlett, Eads, Memphis and Lakeland.

There will be two classes starting in March at the IH Clubhouse in Lakeland.

The dates and times are as follows:

Lakeland man calls police on himself

LAKELAND, TN- (WMC-TV) - A Lakeland man is facing a list of charges after inadvertently calling the police on himself.

Neighbor Corin Pearson saw an odd scene near his Memphis home off Winding Path Drive Sunday morning.

"Wow. I don't know what was going through his mind, but wow," said Pearson. "Looked like something you just don't see everyday."

Police said John Ferrell called 911 to say he was chasing a man he caught leaving Ferrell's paving business in the 9000 block of Macon Road with his vehicle lights off.

The 911 dispatcher told Ferrell not to pursue.

Ferrell chewed out the dispatcher, hung up on her and continued chasing the man until the man ditched the vehicle on Winding Path Drive, according to police.

"I saw two police cars. One was an SUV pulled up behind a vehicle, then I saw another come from this direction," said Pearson.
