All Memphis Public Library Locations Closed for Labor Day

LIBRARY CLOSED LABOR DAY


All locations of the Memphis Public Library & Information Center will be closed Monday,
September 6 for Labor Day.

Customers have the option of  reserving and renewing books by going to
www.memphislibrary.org or calling 452-2047. The Library’s website also offers several resources customers can use anytime—24 hours a day—seven days a week.   Downloadable audio books can be checked-out for free; online databases contain searchable newspaper and magazine articles, reference books and more; and blogs and newsletters on everything from fiction bestsellers to travel can be read on the web.

Renovations finished at Walmart

Workers have finished upgrading the Walmart at 6520 Memphis-Arlington Road and the store celebrated its reopening Friday morning.

Here’s some information from the company:

The 39,000-square-foot store will carry a full line of groceries, including fresh produce, frozen foods, meat and dairy products, and organic items.

The renovated store created an additional 40 jobs during the remodel and will employ approximately 114 associates.

Brother's Grill & Seafood hosts Fundraiser

We are raising money for the Make A Wish Foundation and would greatly appreciate any assistance that you may give us in adding our event to your calendar and/or media outlets.
 
Our event will be held at Brother's Grill and Seafood at 2204 Whitten Road, Memphis, TN 38133. We will have a Poker Run, games and fun for all ages, a music fest and auction/raffle. All events begin at 11 am.

School gives back to celebrate anniversary

Normally, you don’t give gifts on your birthday, but that’s exactly what St. Ann Catholic School in Bartlett is doing to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

Here’s the information:

The year-long celebration kicks-off with a birthday party on Sept.10, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. The celebration will take place inside the old gymnasium at St. Ann School.

As part of the celebration school and parish officials have chosen five charities in the Memphis area to honor.

Each grade will be given a charity to support along with a list of specific items to collect.

The five charities are as follows:

Midtown family hosts supply drive for the troops

Information from Project Care Troops

Henley Distributing Co., LLC and Project Care Troops will host a supply drive for the troops on September 11, 2010 starting at 9:00a.m. and ending at 2:00 p.m.

Volunteers will be on hand to collect the items outside Henley Distributing which is located at 3090 Broad Ave in Memphis. Organizers will also have available a small area set up so visitors can create cards or letters for the troops.  Those cards and letters will be placed into the care packages headed overseas.
