Shelby County school students may not have to make up all the snow days we had earlier this year.

Shelby County School Superintendent John Aitken said he does not want students to make up snow days this year.

It's now up to the Shelby County School Board to vote on the superintendent's reommendation. 

So far this school year, county students have missed 4 days due to snow.

Last year, the board voted for students to not make up the snow days.

Pink Eagles soaring with Shelby Sheriff's help

The Pink Eagles are soaring high with a little help from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.

The Pink Eagles are a girl's social etiquette leadership development and entrepreneurial training organization.

Yesterday the sheriff's department handed over items from the group's wish list to the Pink Eagles founder and director Loretta McNary who was overwhelmed.

I often receive e-mail from viewers regarding weather and climate. I got an e-mail this morning from Chelsea, a student at Senatobia High School. Tennessee youngsters will join thousands of their peers across the country taking part in Kick Butts Day on March 23. This nationwide day of youth activism encourages young people to be leaders in the effort to stop youth tobacco use.

“Young people are a powerful part of the solution to reducing tobacco use among our children and teenagers,” said Health Commissioner Susan R. Cooper. “I applaud the efforts of all Tennessee kids setting a healthy example by taking part in Kick Butts Day and sharing this lifesaving message with their peers.”
